What is a reverse osmosis system and how does an RO water purifier work?

Reverse osmosis system is a water treatment technology based on physical principles, the core of which is the use of semi-permeable membranes to filter water, thereby removing dissolved solids, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, organics and other impurities in the water. The technology is widely used in the fields of drinking water purification, industrial water treatment and seawater desalination.

Key features of reverse osmosis system:
High-efficiency filtration: it can remove more than 99% of dissolved solids (such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, fluorine, etc.).

Removal of microorganisms: it can effectively remove microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and algae.

No need for chemical treatment: does not rely on chemicals, it is a physical filtration method.

Environmental protection and energy saving: compared with the traditional filtration method, it consumes less energy and is suitable for long-term use.

RO water purifier is a kind of household or commercial water purification equipment based on the principle of reverse osmosis, and its workflow usually includes the following key steps:

Before entering the reverse osmosis membrane, the raw water needs to be pre-treated to remove large particles of impurities, chlorine, organics, etc. to prevent these substances from clogging or damaging the reverse osmosis membrane.

Multi-stage filtration system:
PP cotton cartridge: removes sediment, rust and other large particles of impurities in the water.

Activated carbon cartridge: adsorb residual chlorine, odour, organics, etc. in the water to improve the taste of water.

Softening cartridge: removes calcium, magnesium and other hardness ions from the water, prevents scaling and extends the life of RO membrane.

Security cartridge: as the last filtration, to prevent small impurities into the RO membrane.

The pre-treated water is pressurised by a high-pressure pump so that the pressure exceeds the osmotic pressure of the water (usually 0.7~1.0 MPa), forcing the water molecules to pass through the semi-permeable membrane, while the pollutants are retained.

This is the core part of the RO water purifier and consists of a reverse osmosis membrane. The membrane is selectively permeable, allowing only water molecules to pass through, while retaining contaminants such as dissolved solids, bacteria, viruses, etc., which have larger molecular weights.

Osmotic pressure: the natural tendency of water to flow from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, whereas reverse osmosis is reverse osmosis, i.e., under high pressure so that water flows from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration.

Water yield: usually 30% to 50%, i.e. for every 100 litres of water treated, 30 to 50 litres of pure water can be produced and the rest is wastewater.

Pure water passing through the reverse osmosis membrane enters the post-filter (e.g. activated carbon cartridge) to further remove possible residual odour, residual chlorine and other impurities to ensure the taste and safety of the water output.

The treated pure water is stored in a storage tank and can be used by the user through the outlet. The tank is usually equipped with an air bag to regulate the water pressure and ensure a stable water supply.

Wastewater that does not pass through the RO membrane (i.e., concentrated water) is discharged through a drain, forming wastewater. Modern RO systems are often designed with wastewater recovery devices or wastewater ratio optimisation to reduce wastewater discharge.

Founded in 2005, Aibote is a high-tech enterprise focusing on the manufacturing and solution of civil and commercial water purification products. Adhering to the development concept of "Intelligent, Informationised, Automated", the company is committed to providing users with efficient, safe and environmentally friendly water treatment products. Through the introduction of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and WMS (Warehouse Management System), the company realises the lean management and quality control of the whole process from the entry of raw materials to the exit of finished products. We cover a wide range of water purification equipment for domestic, commercial and industrial scenarios to meet different user needs.

RO water purifiers are widely used in many fields due to their efficient filtration performance and wide applicability. In terms of household water, RO water purifiers can be used in scenarios such as drinking water, cooking water, and baby bottle cleaning to ensure that family members drink safe and healthy water. In addition, due to its high water quality, it is also suitable to be used for people with special needs who require high water quality, such as pregnant women, infants, and patients with chronic diseases.

In commercial places, such as cafes, restaurants, offices, etc., RO water purifiers can provide stable, pure water to meet the needs of daily drinking water, coffee brewing, food processing, etc., to improve the overall quality of water. For the industrial sector, such as electronics, medical, food processing and other industries, RO water purifier also plays an important role, because it can effectively remove heavy metals, bacteria, viruses and other impurities in the water, to ensure the safety of water quality in the production process.

RO water purifier has the characteristics of pure water, can remove up to 99% of the dissolved impurities, including heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, etc., the water is close to pure water, suitable for direct drinking. Its high security, no chemical residues, health and safety, especially for users with high requirements for water quality.

In addition, RO water purifier has a wide range of application, suitable for tap water, well water, river water and other water sources, adaptability. In terms of maintenance, RO water purifier is easy to operate, only need to regularly replace the filter element to maintain good performance, maintenance costs are relatively low.

RO water purifier is a high-efficiency water treatment equipment based on the principle of reverse osmosis, through the pretreatment, pressure, reverse osmosis, post-treatment steps to achieve the depth of water purification. Its core lies in the reverse osmosis membrane, which can effectively remove dissolved impurities, bacteria, viruses, etc. from water, providing safe and pure drinking water.

Aibote, as a manufacturer focusing on water purification, provides users with high-quality, high-performance RO water purification products by virtue of advanced manufacturing process, intelligent management system and strict quality control system, helping to achieve the goal of "safe drinking water, healthy life".
